Hub News!
Chain Reaction celebrates a major milestone for the CR Momentum program — the first eight bicycles have officially made their way into the hands of community members!
For many individuals and families, transportation is one of the biggest barriers to accessing and maintaining employment. With some households spending as much as 40% of their income on transportation-related expenses, having access to a reliable, affordable bicycle can make a meaningful difference.
CR Momentum is about more than providing bikes. It’s about reducing transportation barriers, creating opportunities for greater financial independence, and helping our neighbors move forward.
This program is a true community effort, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the people and organizations making it possible.
Our incredible Chain Reaction volunteers, who dedicate their time and talents to preparing each bicycle for its new owner.
The City of Cedar Rapids and its Family Self-Sufficiency Program, whose leadership and commitment to helping residents achieve economic independence are at the heart of this initiative.
Our local bike shop partners — Goldfinch Cyclery, Hall Bicycle, and Northtowne Cycling & Fitness — for their support and collaboration in bringing this program to life.
These first eight bikes represent an exciting beginning, and we’re looking forward to seeing the impact CR Momentum will continue to have throughout our community.
Because sometimes, a bicycle is more than transportation. It’s a pathway to opportunity.
